Amiga – coming back in the form of a tablet – WTF ?

There are so many Amiga fans and ex-Amiga users out there, and I am one of them. When I read this I thought, what the hell? Read the post from http://www.amiga.com below:

Welcome to the next phase of your mobile computing experience. You have used notebook and, more recently, netbook computers that eventually made you realize they are to heavy to carry around everywhere and require a table or desk to use effectively. You have purchased smartphones that have tiny screens making it difficult to view webpages and interact with websites and communicate with your friends. Now Amiga brings you the Xpedio experience with a lightweight computing device that is easy to take with you anywhere and provides a screen large enough to comfortably interact with the internet and applications.

The Xpedio 7 MT provides a 7″ display in a device that weights just over one pound. As lightweight as it is, now you can view webpages in a manner that is much more comfortable. Surf the web with a fast easy browser designed for a device of this size. Work on documents in a manner that makes you functional without having to adapt to a tiny screen. View presentations without having to squint. Let your kids play games that they can actually see. Keep the world “Green” by reading books, magazines, and newspapers electronically without having to recycle or carry lots of paper around. You can even turn your tablet into a phone by using Skype or other voice over IP applications. With hundreds of thousands of Android applications available through the android marketplace you can find one that makes your tablet device accomplish what you want making you more functional.

Mail, Internet, Productivity, Games, Music, Reading. Don’t be a slave to your computing device. Don’t be a slave to your mobile device. Make your mobile device work for you. Xpedio wants to work for you.

  1. There’s a lot of things happening on the Amigascene these days. The tablet you write about from iContain is just an electronic gadget with an Amiga sticker on it. If you’re looking for real Amiga stuff, check out the following projects:

    – Amiga X1000 from A-EON (This machine will run the latest AmigaOS, which is the official follow-up to the old Workbench series. (http://www.a-eon.com/)
    – Natami from Team Natami. This is a project to make a computer that is compatible with all classic Amiga machines. Great stuff! (http://www.natami.de)

You can find all kinds of new Amiga products on the webshop of Amigakit:

I agree, this is a bit sad. I am an old Amiga fan. If you looked in the section of my Blog, “About Chris,” you’ll see I worked for Coommodore and was very involved in the Amiga.

Thanks for the comment. I’ll check out the links you sent.

  2. Thanks for the reply, Chris. 🙂 Yes, I see you worked for Commodore and was involved with the Amiga. That is great stuff! 🙂

I hope some of the links will cheer you up a bit with regards to the Amiga. There are still many users around to keep the flame burning. 🙂
